Ryan’s Top 5 Albums of 2010 (So far)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I haven’t blogged in a while.  I’m sure you’re all waiting with bated breath to see what bunker buster of knowledge and humor I’m about to drop on you.  Well…..keep waiting.  I’m a busy man.  I’ve got to fill these apples with razor blades in time for Halloween and scrub the Oktoberfest vomit out of my lederhosen.  So, in the meantime, here are 5 albums from this year that have been on repeat in my dashboard.  Justin Bieber missed the list because my Fisher Price tape player is broken.

1.  Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown

Yeah, it may be easy to say one of my absolute favorite bands had the best album I’ve heard this year….but it’s that good.  Nice follow up to the success of their previous release, yet very different and VERY good.

2.  Vampire Weekend - Contra

I feel like a NY hipster just typing that.

3.  The Black Keys - Brothers

I love the Black Keys.  I love blues rock.  And I don’t mean that Stevie Ray Vaughn shit.  It’s pretty awesome.  Also check out their rap collaboration project BlakRoc.  It’s a bunch of songs with the likes of Mos Def, RZA, Raekwon, etc.  It’s real awesome and white people can listen to it with or without any street cred.

4.  Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

People that think they’re really cool and indie love this record.  I love it too.  But it gets a little weird in parts for me.  Or else it would have been pushed higher on the list.  I bet Michael Cera and Zooey Deschanel listen to it a lot.

5.  The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang

Good, not great.  I was expecting more from one of my favorite bands.  Still full of hooks and sing-along choruses, but just didn’t hit me as much as The 59 Sound.

Honorable Mentions:  AM Taxi - We Don’t Stand a Chance, Jimmy Eat World - Invented, Alkaline Trio - This Addiction, and Pearl Jam - Kansas City, MO 5-3-2010  (This could have been #1, but it’s a live album and I went to the show.  So that would be cheating)
